Q&A with DAMON HUARD - 8/9
Aug 09, 2007, 6:38:28 PM

: How much are you going to play on Saturday at Cleveland?

HUARD: “I have no idea. I think that QB Brodie (Croyle) is going to start the game and then we will just see how things unfold. I imagine I’ll get in there at some point, but I don’t know.”

Q: How do you think everything is going for you right now personally, professionally?

HUARD: “Good, I think that everything is going real well. I feel really good about camp. We have come together as an offense pretty good and we’ve come together as a team in a lot of ways. We’ve had the scrimmage against the Vikings, which is a good experience, and we just keep plugging away every day. We also work hard, but we also rest and I think coming away our bodies feel pretty good; at least mine does. You just look forward to finally playing some games here.”

Q: TE Tony Gonzalez said the other day that this is the most fun he has ever had at camp before. What’s different about it?

HUARD: “Herm (Edwards) does a real good job with the atmosphere. He makes it competitive and I think guys go hard. We might not be out there for three hours, but when we’re out there we’re flying around, going hard and busting our tails. We get the ample time to recover so that we can go out there and perform well. So maybe that’s what Tony means.”

Q: Can you talk about the loss of T Damion McIntosh and the offensive line?

HUARD: “We’re a real veteran group up front. Certainly with Damion out there is an opportunity for T Will Svitek to step in there and rise to the challenge and take advantage of the opportunity. I think that he will. He’s a man if you just look at his size and ability. He’s been here three years now, so it’s a great opportunity for him to go out and play and help this team win.”

Q: What do you think is going to be the difference in who Herm picks at quarterback between you and Brodie?

HUARD: “I think who moves the chains in the preseason games, who doesn’t turn the ball over and who his gut tells him to go with.”

Q: Some of the TV analysts said that they expect you to be the starter because you are the veteran. How do you feel about that?

HUARD: “You know, I don’t read into it too much. I can’t worry about what people say or what people think; I can only worry about myself and competing every day and trying to show these guys that I’m capable of leading the team. Those are outsider opinions and it’s great that they’re in my corner, but at the end of the day it’s what we do out here on the football field and in the preseason games.”

Q: Do you and Brodie have the relationship where you can still mentor him even if you are not the starter?

HUARD: “We have a great relationship. He’s a real easy going guy and we get along really well. We’ve talked about that and either way we are going to be supportive of each other.”

Q: What did you think of Hard Knocks?

HUARD: “It was good. I enjoyed seeing my wife and kids.”
